No federal taxes (tax-free) on airfare tickets starting at Midnight ET

According to the Chicago Tribune, portions of the FAA will be shut down tonight starting at midnight. What this means is that plane tickets will be able to be bought tax-free starting on 7/23/2011 at midnight! That’s right, no taxes on plane tickets. There is still a slight chance that congress can work something out preventing the shut down. It seems that a system will be in placed for each website where the taxes will get removed. This is good news for travelers planning on buying plane tickets for cheap!

To get an idea of how much you will save with no taxes on plane tickets, here is an example:

The average tax on a $300 round-trip ticket is about 61 bucks – That’s around 20% savings!
